The Vision: 10 pieces, originating from one discarded cabinet door, hope to be a source of community connection.

The Construction: On the back of the cabinet door, I painted a message my mom received in a meditation some years ago before THIRST 2022. “WE ARE ONE.” (Yes, Pitbull, JLo and Claudia Leitte may have something to add: Ole Ola!) I took the old miter saw to task to split the board into 14 pieces. Enter scrap metal from my dad’s art, paint borrowed from my sister, and some forgotten wire. Each part of the project belonged to something else, or was shared from someone else. Without which, these pieces would not be soon on the walls of the High Desert Museum!

The Admission: Yes, the art is pretty out there! The pieces are imperfect. They’re abstract. They’re bright and bold and subtle and some barely holding on. But then again, aren’t we all?

The Details: If you secure one of these pieces at the upcoming $20 Art Show, please email me with a photo of your piece, and I’ll host a thoughtful and accessible gathering for the group of 10 to take place in Bend, Oregon, in early 2027.

The Hope: No matter the outcome, I hope the pieces on the wall will remind us how much we need each other - and of our shared humanity. That despite campaigns of fear and hate that seek to tear us down and rip us apart, we can always choose to come together, instead.

The Support: 100% of the sales will go to supporting the incredible work of the Latino Community Association.
